93: “I have never had to worry about him like my friends…”

I have a boy who is now 21. I have never had to worry about him like my friends with black or mixed race boys. I didn't worry when I sent him to secondary school that he would be treated differently by the teachers because of the colour of his skin. I never had to think, "maybe he got a bad report, not because he was not intelligent, but because he was black". I never worried when he was late home from school or when he went out at night that he had been stopped by the police or arrested. I was not worried that he might not go to university just because of the colour of his skin. And I know that just being a white man will help him get a job....
