104: “I come from South Africa.”
I come from South Africa, where it is pretty standard for white people to accept that we were taught/brought up in a racist society, where we learnt racism, and so, we make racist mistakes all the time. And then have to struggle with it, tackle it, reflect on it, create an environment where people we care about/respect can call us in so we learn and unlearn. But, in the UK, when I say to white people that, yes, we are all racist and we just need to struggle against it, people get very defensive.
