117: “ I had my first baby in a London hospital...”

I was stopped by police in rural Pennsylvania for making an illegal left turn. I had a few drinks before I drove two very, very drunk family members back to their hotels for a wedding we were attending. They asked me to step out of the car - I worried if I was over the blood limit. After they breathalyzed me, the two cops stared at the result and chatted with one another. I felt I was being given a pass and it felt like I was being privileged. They knew we were only in town for a wedding and were only 5 miles away from the hotel. They never told me the result so I'm left wondering to this day if I really got off because the two white cops empathized with me or if I was actually under the limit. Regardless, the entire interaction was so cordial, I know that I benefitted from privilege because I didn't feel threatened once. I think about that interaction a lot.
