36: Special treatment

I was travelling back from southern India a few years ago on my own.I arrived at the airport at 4 am for a 6am flight. There were many people queuing and trying to get into the airport. The guard at the entrance saw me- a lone white woman- and called me forward and through the queues.Once in the airport I was looking for my desk to check in- again there were many people. Again some one saw me and called me forward to an empty desk and checked me in.I was very grateful for this special treatment but aware I had done nothing to deserve it.It made me think a lot more about white privilege.
