68: Congregation versus leadership

I go to a church which is around 40% black - with those who are black being mainly from West Africa. The leadership team is entirely white - as are all the staff. I have felt frustrated as the songs that we sing aren't reflective of the cultures in our congregation - our worship leaders are all white and we sing soft pop/rock worship songs and hymns. I know this is not the worship music our African members listen to or worship with in their own homes. At one point there was a suggestion that the worship team could get some funding to help boost it - and the worship leader suggested bringing in a white worship leader from another church to help out. I suggested that we hire someone to train up a worship leader from within our own church community, focusing on our African members as we have gifted singers amongst them. But I got no response. I feel frustrated as I used to worship in a pentecostal church and know how much I was enriched by the diverse worship styles and music used, which reflected the fact that the worship team was around 50% black.
